Old Mondoro (Lion) Bushcamp is reached by a 30 minute light aircraft fright from
Lusaka to Jeki, an airstrip marked out on the dried sandbanks of the Zambezi floodplain.
Or it can be reached as we did via a 6 hour canoe trip down stream from Sausage Tree
Camp, or if you prefer, via leisurely safari drive.
The camp was brand new when we arrived on our first visit, we were in fact the first guests to stay. Rooms are simple, but delightful with views over the river. Showers are achieved by heating water in an old oil drum over a fire, putting this in a wheel barrow and then filling a canvas sack which is then hauled into an over hanging
tree. Needless to say, you can't just say I want a shower now!
Night drives were very good from this point, while there is lots of evidence of aardvark activity in the area, however we failed to see any.
Old Mondoro Bush Camp is jointly ran and managed by Chiawa Camp and Sausage Tree Camp.
